Hurricane Helene caused unprecedented flooding and devastation in western North Carolina and has disrupted activities throughout North Carolina, including within the NC AHEC Program.
We are grateful for the outreach and expressions of support from AHECs and others within North Carolina and throughout the country. We are working with the most affected AHECs to assess how most appropriately to support them, their work, and their teammates who have been adversely affected by Helene.
As of September 30, 2024, offices at Mountain AHEC (MAHEC) are closed. This page will be updated with additional information as MAHEC begins to reopen and operate in limited capacities.
Student housing has been disrupted in many of MAHEC’s counties and some counties in the Northwest AHEC region. Contact housing@ncahec.net with questions pertaining to student housing.
We have partnered with the UNC Health Foundation to provide a giving link for those interested in sending monetary donations to assist Regional AHEC employees in western North Carolina in their relief and recovery: unchf.org/ahec. The Program Office will work with Regional AHECs to determine the best method for dispersing funds to their employees. Donations will be tax deductible, and donators will receive a tax receipt immediately via email.
