Hurricane Helene caused unprecedented flooding and devastation in western North Carolina and has disrupted activities throughout North Carolina, including within the NC AHEC Program.

We are grateful for the outreach and expressions of support from AHECs and others within North Carolina and throughout the country.  We are working with the most affected AHECs to assess how most appropriately to support them, their work, and their teammates who have been adversely affected by Helene.

As of September 30, 2024, offices at Mountain AHEC (MAHEC) are closed. This page will be updated with additional information as MAHEC begins to reopen and operate in limited capacities.

Student housing has been disrupted in many of MAHEC’s counties and some counties in the Northwest AHEC region. Contact housing@ncahec.net with questions pertaining to student housing.

If you are interested in sending monetary donations that will be used to help Regional AHEC teammates in western North Carolina recover, we are working to provide an active link to collect donations. This link will become available on this page soon. Donations will be tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt immediately via email. The Program Office will work with Regional AHECs to determine the best method for dispersing funds to their employees.

The state of North Carolina is providing general information and opportunities for contribution to affected communities through the following website: Hurricane Helene | NC Department of Public Safety.

This page will be continually updated with additional announcements and resources as they become available.
